Montblanc hosts a spectacular event in Monaco as a tribute to the iconic Princess Grace of Monaco

On September 8th 2011, 350 VIP guests from around the world will come together in Monaco to celebrate the global launch of the Montblanc “Collection Princesse Grace de Monaco”. Montblanc is paying tribute to one of the most remarkable individuals of all time and gives support to her artistic legacy the Princess Grace Foundation-USA.  Grace Kelly, Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco, is a woman admired for her iconic timeless style, her artistic talent as an Oscar-winning actress and for her unrelenting commitment to helping others. The Collection consisting of three one-of-a-kind fine jewellery sets, timepieces and writing instruments is true to Princess Grace of Monaco’s iconic timeless style and sophistication. Feminine and timelessly elegant, the pieces from this collection are some of the most exquisite ever-crafted in Montblanc’s Ateliers, rich in details inspired by this icon’s spirit and attention to style.

Under the patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert of Monaco, Montblanc has developed an outstanding concept for the launch of the Collection Princesse Grace de Monaco. Before the pieces are dramatically unveiled for the first time, guests will enjoy a specially commissioned production at the Opera Garnier by Robert Wilson, one of the 21st century’s great theatre visionaries. Attended by H.S.H. Prince Albert of Monaco and H.R.H. Princess Caroline of Hanover, “Grace for Grace” is a tribute in three acts - a fascinating musical and visual journey through Princess Grace’s life from Philadelphia girl, to Hollywood star and finally to Princess.

Because Princess Grace had a passion for roses, the rose is a central theme to the production with arias and musical excerpts chosen to reflect her favourite flower. The performance features some of the most exciting artists from the world of music, opera, ballet and popular culture including singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright, opera stars Bryn Terfel, Diana Damrau and Shenyang, prima ballerina Gillian Murphy and singer/songwriter Martha Wainwright.  The intricate costumes have been specially designed by Viktor&Rolf in honor of Princess Grace’s iconic beauty, elegance and glamour.

Robert Wilson explains, "I have always been a great admirer of Princess Grace. She had impeccable style, she was noble and human at the same time. It has been a privilege to continue my collaboration with Montblanc on this project and a joy to work with all these wonderful performers.”

Following the show, guests will be invited to walk across the square to the iconic Hotel de Paris for a sumptuous dinner in the presence of the Princely Family. Guests attending the event in Monaco include: Naomi Watts, Jerry Hall, Daryl Hannah, Olivia Palermo, Emmanuelle Béart, Elsa Pataky and more.

Montblanc has been privileged to enjoy a very special relationship with the Principality of Monaco in recent years.  Montblanc’s journey started with the world premiere of the Montblanc Prince Rainier III Limited Edition 81 in 2007. This precious skeletonized fountain pen, limited to just 81 pieces, was a celebration of the life of the late Prince Rainier with approximately half of the proceeds from the sale of the pen going to the “Fondation Princesse Grace” in support of cultural projects.  Last July, Montblanc was honoured to be a part of the royal wedding of H.S.H. Prince Albert II to H.S.H. Princess Charlene with the creation of a one-of-a-kind gift: a solid white gold writing instrument adorned with 161 rubies and 128 diamonds reflecting the colours of the Principality of Monaco flag. This commemorative pen was used by the newly-weds to sign their wedding contract.

Montblanc has supported artists and cultural initiatives for decades, and is reinforcing its commitment to the arts with the introduction of a partnership with the Princess Grace Foundation-USA, a non-profit organization dedicated to identifying and assisting emerging talent in theatre, dance, and film by awarding grants in the form of scholarships, apprenticeships, and fellowships through the Princess Grace Awards program. The Foundation reflects Princess Grace of Monaco’s life-long commitment to helping emerging artists realise their potential.

The collaboration with the “Princess Grace Foundation-USA” was launched in Los Angeles last February during the Academy Awards, where guests were invited to sign a “wish wall” to the late Princess Grace in support of the Foundation’s work. Since this announcement, the “wish wall” has travelled across the world to some of the most high profile cultural events in the world, including the Montblanc New Voices Award at the White Nights Festival in St Petersburg in June 2011 and the celebration of 10 years of the Young Directors Project powered by Montblanc at the Salzburg Festival in August 2011. Following the launch in September, the “wall” will continue its journey to New York City, where it will be featured at the Princess Grace Foundation-USA’s annual gala in November 2011. The “wall”, featuring the heartfelt wishes of some of the greatest names in entertainment, art and culture will be donated to the Foundation.
